Al Sadd, Al Arabi notch up wins to share lead
DOHA (Qatar): Al Sadd and Al Arabi shared the top spot in Qatar Table Tennis Association National Championship after the end of the third round here QTTA Training Hall in Ras Abu Abboud on Monday evening.
Both teams have six points after winning their third successive matches.
Sadd overcame Al Shamal 3-0 while Al Arabi had to struggle to get the better of Al Khor 4-1.
Defending champions Qatar Sports Club also notched up their second successive win by beating Al Gharafa 4-0.
The first leg of the ninth round will end on February 1 and the return round will start on February 2.
The tournament is being held with a new system this season with two phases.
The first stage played with a round-robin league will determine the positions from first to ninth.
The second phase will feature top four teams from the first phase, who will then battle for the podium honours.
In the fourth match of the evening, Al Rayyan, who lost to Al Sadd 3-4 in the previous round, beat Al Ahli 4-1 to raise their points to five.
Al Ahli ended the evening with a hard-fought 4-2 win over Al Shamal.
