2021 Asian Championships big boost for Qatari players, says QTTA President

DOHA (Qatar): For the Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA), hosting the 2021 Men’s and Women’s Asian Championships in September would be another feather in their cap.

QTTA has had hosted several top international events including the annual ITTF World Tour since 1994, the continental championships would give Qatar pride of place as one of the world’s top sporting destinations.

Qatar were hosts in 2000, and this will be the second time that the prestigious event will be held here.

QTTA President Mr. Khalil Ahmed Al Mohannadi, who is also the ITTF Deputy President and Arab Table Tennis Association President, exuded confidence that the 2021 Asian Championships would be a big boost for the new generation of Qatari players.

“I’m confident that our youth come will into contact with the best-ranked players in the region,” said Mr. Khalil, also a First Vice-Presidents of Asian Table Tennis Union.

“We’ll also have the honor to host the best players of the region especially the ones from China, Japan, India, Hong Kong, China Taipei, and South Korea. It’ll be like a mini-world championship,” added Mr Khalil. “It will be another opportunity for Qatar to host yet another world-class event.”

In June this year, Mr. Khalil was chosen by the ITTF Executive Committee as a Managing Director and ITTF representative in the newly-formed World Table Tennis (WTT) in recognition of his efforts to develop the sport in the world.

“We are very happy with the honor that Qatar was chosen as the host for the second time. I thank the members of the General Assembly for choosing us after China and India quit the race,” added Mr. Khalil, widely regarded as one of the most recognized sports administrators from the Arab world and Qatar.

The WTT Board is entrusted with the responsibility to increase global table tennis investments and better marketing of the game through the introduction of competitions with large financial rewards and huge returns from TV broadcasting and sponsorships.
